 Wild Mango Sweet and Sour Recipe


  • 4 ripe mangoes
  • 1 medium-sized onion
  • 2-3 tablespoons jaggery (adjust according to your taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder/bafat powder (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • Fresh curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic
  • 1 dry chili
  • 1 green chili


  1. Peel the mangoes and set the flesh along with the seed aside. In a bowl, squeeze the peeled skins of the mangoes to extract the pulp, adding a little water to help with the extraction.
  2. In a saucepan, heat 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil. Once the oil is heated, fry the crushed garlic pods. Then add the mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Add the dry red chili, curry leaves, and onion. Fry the onion until translucent.
  3. Now, add the mango pulp and peeled mangoes to the pan.
  4. Add jaggery, salt, green chili, and chili/bafat powder to the mango curry. Mix well until the jaggery is dissolved, and the mangoes are soft and coated with the seasonings.
  5. Cook the mixture on medium heat for a few minutes until the flavors meld together and the mangoes are tender.
